Generations of Monumental Masons

About Us

Established in the 1700s

Our Long Heritage

A Steadfast Line of Succession

James Long (Masons) Ltd is a company with a long heritage – in fact we are the oldest firm of monumental masons in the West of England, dating (as is proved by mention in the deeds to our stonemason’s yard in Trowbridge, Wiltshire) back to the 1700s.

As far back as we can trace, we’re aware that the descendants of the founding memorial mason, James Long, sold the business on to Leonard White in 1936, who ran it with his son Peter. Leonard died in 1952 but Peter went on producing memorials until he retired in 2000. He then entrusted the business to an employee – Jason Willcox – who had joined the firm as a junior apprentice back in 1986 and moved on to become a company director.

Jason remains at the helm, with his wife, Deborah, and is in turn training his own son to be a Memorial Mason.

Our company maintains its original core values of excellent workmanship combined with compassionate, personalised and courteous customer care, in keeping with the nature of our business.

Values you Can Trust

Our Commitment to Quality

While our values may be considered old-fashioned in today’s impersonal world, we have moved with the times in all other respects to ensure our customers receive a professionally designed and crafted product – whether it be a small, simple stone memorial tablet or a large elaborate headstone with a kerb enclosure.

Although a lot of the processes we use in creating durable, high-quality granite, marble or stone memorials and monuments are traditional and timeless, we do have the advantage of modern machinery to cut down manufacturing times.

Each commission, however, is finished to perfection by hand, treated with the respect and reverence which we feel is owed to the individual for whom we are making the memorial.

We are happy to come to you for a consultation in Wiltshire, Somerset, Hampshire, Dorset, Bristol or South Gloucestershire whenever it suits you, to organise and advise on the best next step for ordering a memorial. We understand that it can be a daunting prospect if it’s something you have never had to deal with before, but we can help you through the process.
